Dr. Roland M. Carter Comes to Hartford
Dr. Roland M. Carter, world renowned professor, composer, and pianist; arranger of the Negro National Anthem “Lift Every Voice and Sing” popular among Black College Choirs, comes to Hartford to conduct a 100 voice community choir in concert.

Zion Church in continued celebration of its 175th Anniversary, by attending a concert "The Legacy of Spirituals", conducted by Dr. Roland M. Carter; on October 25, 2008 at 7:00 PM. Dr. Carter is the Ruth S. Holmberg UC Foundation Professor of Music at the University of Tennessee, founder and CEO of MAR-VEL Publishing Co., and a Life Member of the National Association of Negro Musicians Inc. (NANM)
Special tribute will be paid to the memory of Mrs. Donna Jones McKenzie; pianist, soloist, directress of VOICES and Hartford school teacher for many years.
