Pastor's Bio

Rev. Terry L. Jones, Sr.

For the past twelve and a half years, The Rev. Terry L. Jones, Sr. has served as the successful pastor of the Warner Temple A.M.E. Zion Church, Wilmington, North Carolina. Pastor Jones is a native of Jacksonville, Florida, where he was reared and completed early childhood and secondary education. Rev. Jones matriculated under full academic scholarship at Fayetteville State University in the area of Music Education.

Pastor Jones preached his trial sermon at the historic Evans Metropolitan A.M.E. Zion Church in Fayetteville, North Carolina in October 1979 and was received into Central North Carolina Conference in November 1981. Rev. Jones served as pastor of several churches within the Central North Carolina Conference including: St. Mary's and Taylor's Chapel A.M.E. Zion Churches, Kitrell, N.C. (1981-1982) and Mt. Zion A.M.E. Zion Church, Fayetteville, N.C. (1983-1989).

In December of 1989, Jones was transferred to the Missouri Annual Conference as pastor of the St. Matthew A.M.E. Zion Church, Kansas City, Missouri (1989-1992). While in Kansas City, Rev. Jones taught in the Public School District and also pursued studies on the Master of Divinity Degree at the St. Paul School of Theology.

Since January 1992, Pastor Jones has served as the pastor of the fastest growing A.M.E. Zion Church in Cape Fear Annual Conference, the Warner Temple A.M.E. Zion Church in Wilmington, North Carolina. Under his leadership, the congregation has accomplished much. A new ultra-modern church edifice was built and dedicated in 1996; extensive properties have been purchased around the church for future expansion; a very commodious and well appointed parsonage was purchased and dedicated in April, 2000; a Community Outreach Facility was purchased and completely renovated for the use of the Warner Outreach Ministries Community Development Corporation, a non-profit (501C-3) entity of the church.

Rev. Jones is in much demand as a Conference speaker and preacher and he has traveled extensively representing the denomination. He serves on a number of boards and commissions of the church and most recently served as the Executive Director of the Wilmington A.M.E. Zion Housing Development Corporation. Sponsored by the Warner Temple Church, along with a consortium of other A.M.E. Zion Churches in the city, this program provides affordable housing for low to moderate-income families.

In August of 2004, after the election and elevation of Bishop Kenneth Monroe, Reverend Terry L. Jones, Sr., was appointed to the historic pulpit of the Metropolitan Church, where he continues to lead the congregation into new ventures of ministry.

Rev. Jones is married to Donzla M. Jones of Henderson, North Carolina, and they are the proud parents of three boys: Terry, Jr. (T.J.) who is a Senior at North Carolina Central University, Durham North Carolina majoring in Music Education: Justin Bernard and Joshua Alan.
